about
Sometimes when you're least expecting it, criticism can throw you completely off guard. But it's how you deal with it that matters.
Late last year, I received an email from someone anonymous, saying that my lyrics were "cliche." (Maybe they are, to an extent... but hey, that's just my writing style!)
A few years ago, those comments would’ve literally broken me and I would’ve been hysterically crying... but instead I decided to focus that energy into writing a song! This song has been in the works for about six months, and I'm so excited to share it with you all!
lyrics
(Verse 1)
You say you can’t stand my music
You think my lyrics are bad
But in the grand scheme of things,
Do you think I really give a damn?
Hey, I’m just being me
(Verse 2)
When it comes to the haters, just “shake them off”
And when you’re writing music, give it all you got.
Pour out your heart and soul
And eventually people will see you,
and they’ll be wanting more
(Bridge)
You’re seeking negative attention
like an animal would
But your words ain’t getting to me, boy
Even if you think they should
(Verse 3)
The words are about being strong,
I think maybe you’re weak
Jealousy played a part
So you chose to speak
What you said could’ve made me cry,
But I’m not gonna let it
If you’re looking for a date...
Well you can forget it!
(Outro)
When it comes to the haters, just “shake them off”
And when you’re writing music, give it all you got.
Your words ain’t getting to me, boy
Oh, ooh woah...

Anna-Marie Rytter: lead vocals, backing vocals, guitar, bass, recording and engineering, mixing, mastering
Anna-Marie has always had a passion for music. Influenced by the likes of Michelle Branch, Jann Arden, and Taylor Swift, her music style is alternative pop based with subtle hints of country and rock influences.
I've always been a huge fan of Switchfoot (and Jon Foreman's solo work as well)! They combine thought-provoking lyrics with catchy instrumentation and INCREDIBLE vocals. Anna-Marie
